What makes this one different

The qualities Instagram actually serves

We read the renditions attached to the post and list them with resolution and approximate size, so you choose rather than guess. We never upscale a 720p source and label it 4K.

MP4 that plays everywhere

Instagram serves H.264/AAC in an MP4 container. Files download as-is with no re-encoding, so quality is identical to the source and the file opens on iOS, Android, Windows and macOS.

Nothing is kept

The processed file lives on disk for 30 minutes and is then removed. We do not build a library of what anyone downloaded.

What people use it for

  • Archiving videos you published on your own Instagram account.
  • Collecting footage a client or brand partner has cleared for reuse.
  • Keeping a local copy of a Reel before you take a campaign post down.

Limitations worth knowing

  • Only public posts work. If the account is private or the post is restricted, Instagram will not serve the media and neither will we.
  • Instagram carousels contain several items — paste the link to the specific item you want.
  • Uploads are limited to 500 MB per file on the free tier.
  • Results are deleted 30 minutes after they are ready, so download them right away.

What Instagram actually stores for a video post

When you upload to Instagram, the platform transcodes your file into a small set of renditions rather than keeping your original. Feed video is normally capped around 1080 px on the long edge, and the bitrate is chosen by Instagram, not by you.

That matters when you download: the best available file is Instagram's rendition, not your master. If you need the original quality of something you posted, use your own export. If you only have the posted version, this tool gets you the highest rendition Instagram kept.

Only download what you are allowed to use

Downloading is a technical act; reuse is a legal one. Saving your own content, or content you have written permission to use, is fine. Re-uploading someone else's video without permission is not, and no tool changes that.

We do not bypass authentication, age gates, paywalls or DRM, and we remove content on valid rights-holder request through our copyright page.

Frequently asked questions

Can I download Instagram Reels here?

Yes. A Reel URL works in this tool, and there is a dedicated Reels page with vertical-video specifics such as 9:16 handling and cover frames.

What quality will I get?

Whatever Instagram stored for that post. Most feed videos top out at 1080×1080 or 1080×1350, and Reels at 1080×1920. If a post was uploaded at 720p, 720p is the maximum available.

Why does this Instagram video fail to download?

The three common causes are a private or follower-only account, a post that was deleted, and a link copied from the app that points to a profile rather than a single post. Open the post itself and copy the URL from the share sheet.

Do you store the videos I download?

No. The file is written to temporary storage so your browser can fetch it and is deleted 30 minutes later. We do not keep the source URL after the job finishes.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. The page is built mobile-first; on iOS the file lands in Files or Photos depending on your browser, and on Android in Downloads.

Do I need to install anything?

No. Everything runs in the browser against our servers — there is no extension, desktop app or account.
