Video to MP3 Converter

Upload a video and get its audio track as an MP3 — no account, no software to install.

How to use it

  1. 1Choose the video file from your device (up to 500 MB).
  2. 2Set the options for the conversion.
  3. 3Start the job and watch the progress bar.
  4. 4Download the result before it expires 30 minutes later.

What makes this one different

Transparent encoding settings

We encode with LAME at VBR quality 2, which averages around 190 kbps. That is high enough to be transparent for speech and near-transparent for music, without producing a needlessly large file.

No quality lost twice

The audio track is decoded once from your source and encoded once to MP3. There is no intermediate re-compression step.

Works with any common container

MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV-style files and audio-only inputs are all accepted — what matters is the audio stream inside, not the file extension.

What people use it for

  • Turning a recorded talk, webinar or interview into an audio file for the commute.
  • Pulling a voiceover out of a rough cut so an editor can work on it separately.
  • Creating an audio version of your own video for a podcast feed.

Limitations worth knowing

  • If the source has no audio track, there is nothing to extract and the job will fail with a clear message.
  • MP3 is lossy: converting an already-compressed track re-encodes it, so do not use MP3 as an intermediate step in a longer pipeline.
  • Free uploads are capped at 500 MB per file.

Choosing an MP3 bitrate

For speech, anything above 96 kbps is comfortable, and 128 kbps is generous. For music, most listeners stop hearing differences somewhere between 160 and 192 kbps on consumer equipment.

We settled on VBR V2 because it sits above that threshold for nearly all material while producing files roughly a third smaller than 320 kbps CBR. If you specifically need 320 kbps CBR for a delivery spec, keep the original and encode locally.

Extracting audio versus converting audio

If your source audio is already MP3 inside an MP4 container, the cleanest operation is a stream copy — but that is rare, because MP4 usually carries AAC.

Converting AAC to MP3 is a real transcode and always costs a little quality. Where the audio only needs to be separated rather than converted, keeping the original codec is the better choice.

Frequently asked questions

What bitrate is the MP3?

Variable, averaging about 190 kbps (LAME -V2). VBR gives better quality per megabyte than a fixed 192 kbps, because bits go where the audio is complex.

Will converting reduce the audio quality?

Slightly, because MP3 is lossy. At V2 the difference is inaudible to most listeners on most material. If you need a lossless copy, keep the original file.

Can I convert a video from a link instead of uploading?

Yes — use the downloader for that platform and choose the MP3 option after analysis.

Is there a length limit?

Length is limited only by the 500 MB upload cap on the free tier, which is roughly two hours of typical 1080p video.

Do you keep my file?

The upload and the result are deleted 30 minutes after the job completes.

How do I remove the audio instead of extracting it?

Use the remove-audio tool, which strips the audio stream and copies the video through without re-encoding.
